Visit my new website, cointranslator.com This is a 24mm bronze coin issued by Claudius II, also known as Claudius Gothicus because of his victory over the Goths in the battle of Naissus. He was a very popular emperor, but died shortly after taking power in the Plague of Cyprian. He was emperor of Rome form 268-270. The obverse depicts a right-facing Claudius wearing a radiate crown. The legend is IMP C CLAVDIVS AVG ("Commander Caesar Claudius, the Emperor"). The reverse shows a female figure standing. It shows too much wear for me to be certain, but I believe the legend is PROVIDENT AVG ("Forethought of the Emperor"). Please judge the grade of the coin for yourself from the pictures, which were taken with a flash and a long exposure. The reverse is very worn, but the obverse is in good shape, with some details and a fully readable legend I have examined and identified this coin myself. It is guaranteed authentic for life. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you, Peter Sutton cointranslator.com Authenticity Guarantee All of my coins are guaranteed to be authentic historical artifacts from the time period described in the posting. This is a lifetime guarantee—it remains in effect as long as the buyer and I both remain alive and as long as the coin remains in the original buyer’s possession. The return situations are as follows: For the first 30 days, buyers may return the coin(s) for a full refund of the purchase price for any reason at all. Since delivery times vary, I give customers 35 days from the date of shipping to let me know of their intention to return the coin.If a coin is proven not to be exactly the coin I say it is (for example, if I call it a Constantius II, but it turns out to be a Constans), then the original buyer may return the coin at any time for a full refund of the purchase price plus any shipping charges incurred. If I make a serious mistake in identifying the coin (e.g. if I am way off on the size or date), or if a coin is proven to be a fake (i.e. a modern forgery) by a reputable dealer or grading agency (documentation required), then the original buyer may return it at any time and I will refund 110% of the original purchase price, plus any shipping charges incurred. Note: in cases 2 and 3, if you are returning the coin after 60 days, it would be helpful to have a copy of the original posting (of which I include a hard copy when I ship the coin) or of your paypal or credit card statement, because eBay deletes posting information after 60 days.
